Something lives deep beneath the streets of San Francisco. Something that has been there for centuries, something which comes out at night to feed on the dregs of society. A sub-culture with its own myths and its own legends.

Stories of a leader named The King, who will lead them out of bondage, and their own demon, a hunting shadow known only as Savior. But the legends of Savior's brutality have faded, the fear used only within fables told to the young ones about their hunter.

When The King finally appears, just as foretold, the Nocturnals know their time has come -- the time to emerge from under the streets and hunt humanity in the open.

    perfect, simply perfect.

This one has it all; suspense, thrills, mystery, horror, action... and "Pookie", the wittiest cop to walk the meanest streets. It also has some of the most bizarre imagery that has ever been conceived. If you survive a night in the underbelly of the nocturnals, your conception of conception will never be quite the same. Totally original special effects of the mind.. It's a toss up between this one and "Contagious" to be my favorite from Sigler. Great characters.... and a wild ride through a carnival of monsters I never could have imagined.

Read my review of Nocturnal here: http://freshly-ground.blogspot.com/2009/05/podcast-novel-review-nocturnal-by-scott.html "Sigler's dark alternate San Francisco is a place of fear and tension, haunted by unseen monsters, remorseless gangsters, ruthless vigilantes, corrupt cops, and a psychotic schoolboy with a god complex. Through this morass of murder two cops face the challenge of trying to solve the murders that have started to plague the city, only to find a conspiracy that even the SFPD doesn't want them to uncover."
