Winter of Different Directions by Steven J. McDermott
This is a selection of short stories, each well written. I like the idea of a collection of short stories here.
The recording is passable, however there are times when I had to turn the intro down and then crank the volume back up on the story. Levelator would have been a good additional tool and one time in one episode I listened to, there was an echo. This happened after the author stopped and came back to finish recording the story later, It was a short section and if he had listened to the recording he would have heard it and then re-recorded (I hope). However, all that said, the recording quality would not have stopped me from listening.
What did stop me after five stories was the content. The first five were about an angry man. Agreed, they were all different men, all angry in different ways, but angry, all the same. Well, I have to back up, there was one story about an almost robbery and a young man as the clerk. I guess you could say it was a form of maturing for him? That was the only one I felt anything for other than not caring at all what happened to the rest of the lives of the men in the stories.
For the right audience, these will do well. For me, a woman, not really that curious about angry men, I just do not want to listen further.
