Now releasing: Billy Barbarian by J.R. Murdock
You’ll get to hear the fantasy-side of J.R. Murdock’s tale-telling. He’s starting the release of the serialized audiobook version of his novel, Billy Barbarian:
For a barbarian, life is simple. Hunt. Eat. Build. There’s not much else. But for Billy Barbarian there has to be more to life. So he’s decided to head down to the big city and check things out. In the mighty, booming metropolis of Sethopolis Billy seeks employment, and finds it. His first job is to protect Ms. Celine Dijon while she is giving a concert at Stump Arena. Through his assignment, Billy gets to meet the famous real estate developer, Ronald Stump.
But the fun and joy don’t last long, as Billy uncovers a plot against Ms. Celine’s life. Can this sturdy barbarian do what needs to be done to protect her? Is he strong enough and quick witted enough?
Join Billy, Jack Indabocks and Phat Cao as Billy tries to deal with dragons, skyscrapers, wizards, and evil plots as they try to keep Ms. Celine safe. Will his first job in the big city be his last? Find out!
J.R. is going to make you wait for it, starting out with a single, lonely episode. He’s promised me under pain of toe-stubbing to put up at least one brand new episode each and every week. With luck, he’ll grow weary of the pace and speed it up. Regardless of when you find this, you can get a customized feed and always start from the beginning, getting one episode at a time. We’ll shove ever episode as fast as we can in the default feed, and you can always just click links on the book’s page if you would rather listen in front of your computer. Any way you like it, you’ll get the whole thing for free.

This has turned out to be a really fun story that keeps me guessing. The plot seemed simple enough, a barbarian goes into town to find a job and learn about the place – but he gets mixed up with some crazy stuff. I can’t wait to find out how it’s all going to end, because the story has raised so many questions for me. The characters and locations they visit in the story are really cool, and make the it a blast to listen to. I’ve really been enjoying this one.

This was a really great story and a fun listen. The narration was performed nicely and the music mixed in was entertaining. The only negative I can say about the story is the terrible naming. Slightly amusing at first, it rapidly distracted me from an otherwise well written story.

Thank you everyone for your kind comments and words. This book was great fun to write and even more fun to podcast.
Dan: Glad you enjoyed the book! It was a hoot, wasn’t it
Bjarte: Thank you very much!
Collin: Glad you liked it. I need to see about getting it into print.
Chris: Glad you enjoyed the story. Sorry if the names distracted you from the story. I tried to keep everyone on a first name basis as much as possible to keep the punny names from being a deterent. The funniest part, some of the names in this book are real names of people I’ve known.
The personalities have been changed to protect the innocent. LOL

Hi JR
*******SPOILER ALERT**************
This was a nice book but there are things I don’t understand, or missed. Why did the pilot try to kill Celene? Was he working with Iman? If so why was Iman annoyed at the attempt. And the same goes for the make up guys. Why did they attack Phil instead of Celene and who were they working with if this attack also annoyed Iman?
