Fried Green Zombies

Chett and Harry are two recently unemployed construction workers on their way to a weekend of beer, Southern Comfort, and frog gigging at their musty-rusted 1970′s RV parked at their favorite hunting camp when they stumble on Bob, the mysterious, busty, burqa-clad, non-English speaking beauty just standing in the middle of nowhere on the side of dusty Nine Mile Cutoff in rural Bovina, Mississippi.
Then all hell breaks loose. Their favorite pond is missing. They’re being chased by truck driving zombies, dirty cops, UFOs and other ne’er-do-wells. Someone stole Chett’s jacked up Scottsdale four-by-four. Zombies are traipsing around their trailer, and crazy Uncle Crank is trying to feed them zombie chicken for dinner.
Aided by a classic computer nerd, a crazy man wielding a frying pan, and a space babe who gets nekkid any time someone turns out the lights, follow Chett and Harry as they battle their way across the rural countryside and ultimately save the world.
Why is their pond missing, and why did the Dodge of Death spring from the muddy crater left in its center? Who is Bob and why is she so good with shotguns? Why are they being chased by two really skinny, pale, bald, goatee-clad wierdos? What is the dirty county sheriff hiding? And will Chett and Harry ever make it out alive?
The first five episodes are available in the default feed. Or if you’re like me, you want episodes delivered to you periodically and on a schedule that you chose. You’ll want to get a custom feed to do that. And yep, it’s free. Just because we rock. Watch out for zombies.

This is sounding great! Listened to the first four and I’m really enjoying it, can’t wait to hear what happens next!!! John, the narration is excellent, great voice inflections etc – a tiny bit too fast for me, I’m trying to digest a sentence and another two have wizzed past me, lol! But I think that’s just me getting used to the accent(s) and pace (I’m Scottish, so I know about that stuff, heh!). Anyway, top notch creation so far, thank you very much and long may it continue! I agree with JB, the first chapter was very fast. However that is the only thing I can fault you for. You put zombies in the south and didn’t make the country boys out to be idiots. I could not stop laughing at the chicken and the hotdogs. I can’t wait to get my hands on your other works.

Oh my gosh, this story is great. I LOVE zombie movies, and I LOVE alien movies, and I LOVE humor. This combines them all, and does it very well. Excellent stuff. I want MORE!!!

One of the funniest books I have ever listened to. I have never seen heroes quite like the good ol boys in the story.

Started listening to this and wasn’t sure about it at first…now I’m hooked! It has left me wanting more zombie stories with the adult humor and twists thrown in. Great job!

Hey! If you like ‘The Hack’s” work, you’ll enjoy this one. I did not listen. I went to the website and downloaded the FREE PDF, read it, laughed. Enjoyed myself. Now I gotta go and paypal the bastitch three measly bucks for the one’s and zero’s that make the core of the file I downloaded and degraded my eyeballs readin’. It was worth it. Cuz, ya know, I had a good time, and that’s like, for a graduate of the Evelyn Wood speed reading class of ’81, a buck an hour. A good read, and well written, plotted, characterized, and delivered. Crites’ rum soaked seal of approval.

I thought this audiobook was very well done and highly entertaining. The story was light hearted and interesting with fun characters. My only negative feelings were that I felt the last few chapters felt a bit hurried with a sort of odd wrap up or epilogue. But I would recommend this book.

Excellent book! I loved the story within the first minutes of listening to it. I couldn’t wait to see what happened and often would stay up late into the night, just to listen to the next chapter. I can’t wait to see what else this author writes. I’ll be on the first to download it. I highly recommend this book.

The funniest thing about zombies to come down the pike since the first “Return of the Living Dead”. I laughed out loud. Word through the grapevine is there is a follow up podcast in the works, I’ll be all over it like a zombie on some fresh brains.

Night of the Living Dead, meets ET, meets Monster Jam 4 Wheel drive Trucker show – and Dukes of Hazard………….Oh yea…and Revenge of The Nerds…forgot that one. Wow! never thought someone would put all that together…….and it really, really good. I love this one… Hope there is part 2 coming soon….there was a hanger at then…………Please part 2 soon

This is a very funny book…The problem I have with the audio version is that it’s read like a DJ from a radio station. I realize that maybe that’s just how you read normally, but it was a bit much for someone trying to enjoy the story.

I LOVED this book. It was a subtle poke at stereotypes?, intelligently funny and wonderfully adventurous. I could not wait to hear each episode. I hope to hear/read many more such stories from Allen! Thanks sir for the enjoyment and right out loud laughs.

/i don’t know what I liked most bout this podcast, but I liked it! From the southern brawl which sometimes shines through, to the great funny storyline, I liked it all. ” Bob, listen to podcast?” Yes, Bob listen to podcast!

Great funny story. I couldnt wait to hear what happened in each episode. All the time I was listening I was thinking what a fun movie this would make. (I really hope it gets picked up as a movie). Cant say enough good things about it. This book really cheered me up. Hope you have a sequel coming.

I thought I would add some more comments as I really, really, enjoyed Fried Green Zombies.
I have listened to lots and lots of audiobooks (sci-fi) from podiobooks.com.
Normally horror / zombie stories do not appeal to me but the way your story was promoted on podiobooks.com, I thought I would give it a go.
When you talk about writing the story like a movie in your head, wow, that was the way I was listening to it! I could actually visualise the story just like a movie – that’s why I think it would be great if it got picked up. Not all books that I listen to give me such a clear visual in my head, you have a great talent for descriptions.
I will be looking out for any sequels.

I admit to liking Zombie audio stories. For one, you don’t have to look at them and they are notoriously bad actors. And in audio, thank goodness, they don’t get that much air time.
Humor is another thing. i avoid it because most of it falls flat or is too slap stick obvious. I prefer satire.
But this book was really a surprising hoot. It might look like slapstick but I could hardly wait to hear more of those clever little one liners at a rapid fire pace. Very well crafted… and the narration itself is quite a performance.
You can’t help but love these redneck boys! They’re just so much fun.
Very entertaining.
I would love to hear more.

This story is well worth your time, and if you say you don’t have time, then find some. It’s one of only a couple of podcasts I’ve given to friends that every single person has loved it. It has something for everyone. You can’t help but laugh out loud. It’s great.

The story is well done and entertaining! It took me about 1/3 to 1/2 of the book to really get into the story. Some of the “What is going on” seemed for me to go on a bit long, but once it got going I was hooked. The narration was good with the exception of a couple of voices I found a little whiney/annoying. Maybe 10% of the time language was used it seemed to be unnecessary and didn’t really add anything to the story. Great ending!!! If this were a movie I could see Elvira hosting this on one of her Specials!!!

Really enjoying the story in this well presented podcasted novel. It has everything, zombies, hot alien babes, corrupt police, redneck and teen humour.
The author reads the story well using voices that make it extra amusing. I want to follow the story and find out what happens to the characters.
When I get to the end of a good book it is like losing a friend and it will be like that when I get to the end of this story.

Thanks! Here’s an update: I’m working hard on finishing my next one (I have several in the works – which is part of the reason why I’ve not released anything else yet. I’ll NEVER do that again…)
