I have listened to three full episodes, and to be honest, I cannot figure out why I am still listening. The story is interesting, but the writing is condescending and mediocre at best. The voice-character quality is incredibly off-putting--having each character voiced as a painfully-slow-talking nasal cartoon voice is ruining any chance the story has at grabbing my attention. There is one element of the story that has my curiosity so piqued, that I'm contemplating braving the fourth chapter. I would highly, highly recommend Mr Robinson, that you simply read the different characters with slight inflection differences, not full voices.

I gave this a second listen and there were some improvements, but it was still kind of hard to listen to the characterizations for some of the voices that just sounded mentally retarded. I am glad the whistling is gone, but the clarinet music could be discordant as times. At least I was able to get to the end of the work this time. Thanks for making some improvements that made the audio easier to listen to.

One of the more painful audiobooks to complete. Fair audio quality combines with a rambling story and weak plot to deliver mediocrity. The story has some good points: historically accurate language (ala Tolkein), novel plot device, and protagonist strengths/flaws. This story would have benefited from professional editing, stronger voice talent, and post-production enhancement. The substitution of whistling for clarinet was a definite benefit (the whistling still haunts me). The book end came as a surprise. Many scenes seemed rushed, others drawn out. Mr. Tobias, I would look forward to a remastering post-editing.

The whistling just ruins the whole story. I can forgive the narration to a point because it's a tough job to do and not everyone is born with a great narration skill. But still, seriously, the whistling!!! I can barely force myself to keep listening past it.

Mr. Robinson, if you need help to add some music to it please contact me, i'll gladly help you attach whatever music you might want in place of the whistling. That's probably the one thing that's putting people off of this book the most! It's a great story, but that alone makes people run away before the story's even started. It would gain you more listeners to change that at least.

Evo notes: Tobias recently replaced the whistling with a clarinet. - 12/19/08

The story is pretty good. The whistling is annoying, and the narration can be annoying too, but I love the story. I am glad I started it when I had 4 episodes in my podcatcher. It took a couple to hook me. I can overlook the production quality for the story.

I just cannot listen to the narrator's voice anymore. I have listened to three chapters, and it isn't any better. The tendency to have dialogue sound like a person with a mental disability is annoying, to say the least. Sorry, but it cannot retain my attention.

Ok, I just listened to the first chapter... I am not hooked, but again it is only the first chapter. The whistling is kinda strange, maybe it will be replaced with some pod-safe-music in the future?
