Nocturnal

The master of gore and original podcast fiction author Scott Sigler returns with Nocturnal:

Something lives deep beneath the streets of San Francisco. Something that has been there for centuries, something which comes out at night to feed on the dregs of society. A sub-culture with its own myths and its own legends.

Stories of a leader named The King, who will lead them out of bondage, and their own demon, a hunting shadow known only as Savior. But the legends of Savior’s brutality have faded, the fear used only within fables told to the young ones about their hunter.

When The King finally appears, just as foretold, the Nocturnals know their time has come — the time to emerge from under the streets and hunt humanity in the open.

this a great podcast you should check it out

  2. Mike Says:

I’ve just started listening, but I’m impressed already! Nice production and interesting story. Lots of ‘adult’ language, but not overdone.

  3. Jen Says:

This is one of the best books I’ve “read”!
Great story and production. Appropriate use of ‘adult’ language.
The characters are great and you really get pulled into the story like you’re right there with them.

    I anxiously await each chapter.

    A definite recommend!

  4. BarbaraJ Says:

Good scary stuff. Well-paced, hysterically funny (especially anytime Pookie Change is around), and blood chillingly frightening. I’m putting this one at the top of the Siglerlicious collection.

  5. Zippy Says:

I just finished listening to episode six, I had to stop working I was laughing so hard :D

  6. ShirleyB Says:

I just finished episode 25 and I want more, more, more. This is one of the BEST I have heard so far, thanks for adding in all the elements. Keep up the great work Scott. I’m awaiting the conclusion, Again Thanks.

  7. mooood Says:

    master

  8. Steiner Says:

As all of Sigler’s book, excellent!
But, did he take the month of May off? We need more episodes!

  9. Cayce Says:

I love this novel!! Thank you Scott for putting so much effort and passion into your writing! And I have to say, the latest “easily offended” warning made me laugh so much I had to share it with my husband – who also had to listen to it three or four times it was so funny! Thank you for sharing your works with us!

  10. Joyce Says:

Awesome Book! Sigler is an amazing author. As a narrator he is Hysterical!!! I love it when he does Pookie and don’t get me started on Sigler in ANY female voice. The story itself is fantastic! I’m on chapter 25, been listening for the past 3 days any chance I get. Thank YOu Mr. Sigler!!!

  11. J.T. Manis Says:

To those who are wondering about new episodes, Episodes 26, 27, and 28 are currently available at Scottsigler.com

  12. johnnydeath Says:

This one’s his second best I think. I loved The Rookie. This one’s a close second. Once you get past all the Scott Sigler self-love the story is good.

  13. zZzacha Says:

This is my favorite Scott Sigler novel so far. Love it! Nocturnal has nice dark suspense, wonderful characters, great humor and it has all the gore the Scott Sigler junkies know and love.
Oh, and I forget to say that the person reading the chapters really is AWESOME!!!! All those great voices, the swwweet humor. You read it wel, Mr. Scott Sigler. Love your work.

  14. Spencer Says:

I was a big Sigler fan but I have a BIG PROBLEM WITH THIS BOOK. Scott seems to be too busy to churn out the final episodes. One excuse after another. It is like investing time watching a good play but the cast gets tired and goes home before the last scene. Scott obviously hasn’t learned the show biz axion “The show must go on”. Never again will I start an unfinished Sigler podiobook – maybe none at all. I lost interest and have already finished two other podiobooks in the time it took Scott to move from chapter 30 to 31. I am deleting Nocturnal from my feeds and won’t donate for this one. You let me down Scott!

  15. Nephilim Says:

Scott had family health issues. Family comes first. Scott didn’t let me down. Keep up the good work, Scott! I’m sure you’ll be able to scrape by some kind of way without this guys donation.

    FDO for life!

  16. Oaken Says:

Love this tale so far. Family first, good quality is worth waiting for!

  17. blittle Says:

This Spenser guy is kidding, right?

Family first! Scott, keep doing what you do, boo. I wait for quality and will always remember that the artists I look up to are human, not production machines.

  18. cdowdellb Says:

Found a continuity error in there. You said Anna Pou is 45 then said she hadn’t seen the old man for 30 years. Problem math or a 15-year-old police officer?

  19. Steven Says:

Wow! what a tale. I just caught up and I am bummed that I have to wait. But that’s not going to keep me from listening to the rest! Hope the family thing gets better for you [Scott]. One thing I would mention to the average person that is not familiar with your work. Give it at least 3 or 4 chapters. The first couple of chapters present one with charachters that are hard to see as redeemable. But after that it is one hell of a rollar coaster ride!

  20. Jimscreecchy Says:

I think it may just be possible that Mr Sigler has forgotten he has an unfiinished piece of work waiting on this website!

  21. bugler110 Says:

about to just give up on the end of this book also others he has need to be finshed. lossing that bloody glow…

  22. Steve Says:

Absolutely AWESOME!!! Pookie Chang is my favorite fictional cop of all time. The Chang Bang baby. The Chang Bang!

  23. Steve Says:

I will keep listening until finished but the wait time is draining!

  24. shane Says:

You guys that keep complaining have got to be kidding!!!
This is FREE content. It is top quality FREE content. Scott’s stuff is better than most of the stuff that you can buy. Yes, he has had delays. If you checked with his website you would know why before running your mouth. This is great stuff.

Scott, keep up the good work! There are alot of junkies that know you are working hard to keep us supplied.
    Thanks.

  25. Goran Says:

Now that it is finally finished there is no reason not to check this book out. Well other than the fact that you might skip on the whole being with your family thing this holiday season…

  26. Evo Says:

Goran might be a bit disappointed when he listens to what he thinks is the final episode… :)

  27. Goran Says:

Actually I was expecting it. Who on earth doesn’t like a story about mutant monsters with crazy powers? Sigler knows what is good and provides more. Anyway I just hope the next one is a bit more regularly laid out because if it isn’t some of us might have listen through 7th son…again.

  28. Evo Says:

But NOW it really is finished, Goran. #40 marked the end. w00t!

  29. Dave Says:

At first impression, this book didn’t catch me. I mean, monsters attacking people in San Francisco, this has been done so many times before. While the premise to this book was far from original, Scott nailed it from the very beginning with the clarity and liveliness of his characters, like Mr. Chang. Once you begin listening, it is difficult to stop. The violence and moments are terror keep making you come back until the end. Great job Scott, you could be the next Stephen King.

  30. EdNetman Says:

Sigler has some kind of mutant power himself. He has the ability to write fiction that is so enthralling that listeners/readers actually become addicted to his work.

Nocturnal lives up to his reputation for having twists and turns that keep you guessing. This one is definitely worth the bandwidth!

  31. Jonathan Says:

Great Book, No complaints. 5 Stars from me.

  32. Greg Crites Says:

Ya know. I just finished this. I write some shit myself. And usually, if yer self-conscious, or lacking in self-confidence, ya hesitate to give credit to yer peers. Ya try to downpaly or ignore their talent. Well. Fuck you, Sigler. This book rocks. From the first chapter, right on down the line. Good plotting. Good characterization. Good storytelling. This shit is why podiobooks.com will always deliver. Sigler is the Lon Cheney of voice acting, and he breaks out all the voices here. Every character is clearly delineated. Every scene is played for full effect. This is how it’s done by one human with a story to tell and a microphone.

Ya know, we authors have an unwritten contract with the listener. We promise to deliver a story well told. That miserable rat bastitch delivers with nocturnal—in spades. Fuck you, Sigler. Good job.

  33. Literock Says:

First, I found ‘Ancestor’. In fact, it was the very first audio book I had ever listened to. I thought, ‘Wow. If they’re all like this I’ve been missing out just listening to music while I work.’ Shortly thereafter, I accidentally bumped into ‘Contagious’. I found BOTH of these books to be either VERY well researched or you are the king of bullshit. Either way, you had chills creeping up and down my spine.

Nocturnal is a bit of a departure from the science thriller, branching off into the less believable but in NO way less entertaining. You are truly a great author and I don’t use those words lightly.

Thanks for all the hours of entertainment thus far and I look forward to more in the future.

    Sincerely,

    A recent Sigaholic

  34. Carol Says:

Just finished, and I thought this book was great! I enjoyed all of your work – 5 Stars!

  35. Max Says:

After reading MANY freeshare Podcast Novels this really is one of my fravourites. Fast paced and audio quality you could pay for! It has some great cliff hangers and plot developments which will have you listening on until you WIZZ through the whole book.
Scott Sigler has some amazing books and I would reccomend them all but check this one out first!
    Thankyou Scott

  36. Dan Says:

Read my review of Nocturnal here:

    http://freshly-ground.blogspot.com/2009/05/podcast-novel-review-nocturnal-by-scott.html

“Sigler’s dark alternate San Francisco is a place of fear and tension, haunted by unseen monsters, remorseless gangsters, ruthless vigilantes, corrupt cops, and a psychotic schoolboy with a god complex. Through this morass of murder two cops face the challenge of trying to solve the murders that have started to plague the city, only to find a conspiracy that even the SFPD doesn’t want them to uncover.”

  37. Rosanna Says:

This one has it all; suspense, thrills, mystery, horror, action… and “Pookie”, the wittiest cop to walk the meanest streets.
It also has some of the most bizarre imagery that has ever been conceived. If you survive a night in the underbelly of the nocturnals, your conception of conception will never be quite the same.
Totally original special effects of the mind..
It’s a toss up between this one and “Contagious” to be my favorite from Sigler.
Great characters…. and a wild ride through a carnival of monsters I never could have imagined.

  38. lara Says:

    perfect, simply perfect.

  39. Rcbiz Says:

Ok, I wasn’t too sure before but now it’s without doubt – SCOTT SIGLER IS THE SHI*!! This story was totally bad-azz, and I can’t wait until part 2 comes out. Ummm… there will be a part 2 right? …. RIGHT??? Scott has me and probably most of his audience spoiled. Who can listen to Earthcore.. HOT HOT HOT… Nocturnal and … oh man… INFECTED?? Whooo damn! SO COOL!! Then go listen to some of these other Podios.. You just can’t do it. They sound like they are just reading a script. Blah…blah…blah!! Sorry – but especially the women.

I drive a truck all day -10-12 hours a day staring out of a window. So for me, listening to Scott and a few others.. Phil Rossi, Mike Bennett, and Brian Holtz are also GREAT!! But while their stories and voices are like – LEXUS level. Scott is at BENTLEY level! Sorry, I’m not even into cars, but it just fits :) Scott… Nocturnal 2 please… ASAP!!
And I’m also waiting for the final episode of Ancestor. I’ve learned my lesson about listening to an incomplete Sigler story… It will just kill you waiting for each episode. I won’t download a story again until it’s done.

Great work man! You OWN the Sci-Fi Thriller podio genre :)
