I’m crawling even further in bed with Apple

Based on some fantastic reviews of the Apple TV from a few podiobook authors, I’m taking the plunge. Don’t get me wrong, I’m really digging the DVR, but I only record a handful of shows. What I really want to do is make it easier for me to watch Mr. Deity, Ask a Ninja and other assorted things I get through the webernets. Cable may bring you TV signal, but it brings me something different.

While I’m in the spending mood, I’m getting the Time Capsule wireless backup appliance. Several folks have been talking about saving and archiving their favorite podiobooks in our community section, and I was struck by a simple fact: I don’t back up. It’s a pain. But there are things I don’t want to lose, and I’m hoping this can help.

Care to join me on any of this? Apple gives Podiobooks.com a kickback when you buy stuff through us. So if you are in the mood…

With the recent release of the “new and improved” Apple TV (or the software upgrade for early adopters like me), this device became a game-changer. Full access to the iTunes store — including the podcast directory — is right there now, in your living room. I was able to find and listen to my podcast, and many other podiobooks, with a few clicks of the remote button.

This convenience is fantastic for podcast newcomers, and makes checking out new content for jaded podcast listeners easy, too.

I’m not a broadcast or cable TV viewer, so the Apple TV makes sense for my lifestyle. “Value add” (and free!) podcast, YouTube and Flickr integration sweetened the deal.

In the interest of addressing DRM critics (whose criticism is legitimate): The engine powering AppleTV is indeed iTunes, and the content you purchase or rent from the AppleTV experience is locked down with copy protection. If don’t mind that restriction, the Apple TV is a terrific purchase.
