Here’s hoping love will save the day

It’s been a frustrating few days behind the scenes here at Podiobooks.com. Last week, we were all excited about a new opportunity that should increase the reliability of downloads for listeners as well as increase the frequency which new episodes of books can be added. All good news, right?

Then we started getting word that many of you were unable to access some of the files on the system. Worse still, often times we were able to access them without a problem. If you know anything about development work, you know that an inconsistent error is teh suck.

So while we’re pulling out hair out today, working with Libsyn to figure out just what the heck is going on, I saw that Seth Godin talking today about three levels of “marketing” — fear, hope and love. On love:

Love gets you to support a candidate even when he screws up or changes his mind on a position or disagrees with you on another one. Love incites you to protest when they change the formula for Coke, or to cry out in delight when you see someone at the market wearing a Google t-shirt.

Few products or services succeed out of love. People are too selfish for an emotion that selfless, most of the time.

Well, here’s to hoping that your love of us, the service we provide and the authors we are helping to present, can make you stick with us while we figure this out. ‘Cuz right now, we are really, really puzzled. And confused. And frustrated. And sorry. So very sorry. We’ll get things back to right soon. Promise. In the meantime, we’ll probably be holding off on adding new books and episodes. Why just compound the problem, right?

All you need is love, wa-wa-wa-wa!

My error is “authority needed to access files”. Mac osx, itunes.

Evo, no need to apologize! You are performing a great service for with an amazingly small budget. I dare say most subscribers get everything for free. With that in mind, we listeners should have the patience to wait out a few technical problems as you add capacity. This might also be a good time to put out a new appeal for donations. If everybody would chip in just a little I’m sure it would make it easier for you to add the required servers and bandwidth.
