ILS -- With very few exceptions, we don't go out and solicit books. So our preponderance of SF titles is reflective of the types of books people write who send us their work. We'd all love to see more genres represented, and maybe you can help? Contact your favorite authors and tell them about us. Get involved in your favorite genre's literary circle, and tout our method of gaining a wider audience. Evangelize!

I have listened to 7/20 of your top books for 2007. Next year I do hope that you guys/gals here at Podiobooks will have a more wide variety of genres. Most of these books are sci-fi. Maybe best of each genre and then all time most subscribe top 20. But again thanks to everyone at Podiobooks for all of your hard work.

Duane's comments illustrate how tough it is to determine "best" and why we copped out and picked most popular.

Hopefully, Duane, you've got another 8 books to try. :)

Define "best"? I tried at one point or another to pull down like 12 out of those 20, and only finished 7...of which 3 were part of the "Quarter/Half/Full Share" series by Nathan Lowell.

Sometimes it's just not an interesting story to me. Sometimes the narration just can't be tolerated. For instance I love Cory Doctorow's stuff, I just can't stand to hear him read it. Likewise the Silk Code started out well, but I couldn't stand the way it was being read.

Failed Cities Monologues is the best thing on that list, by far. I don't just want to buy that in print, I want somebody to make a movie out of it so I can buy the DVD. That's one of the ones that redefines the concept of podiobook.

'Cuz he pissed me off.

Kidding.

Actually, we took all the "personality" out of the equation. In Scott's case, remember that we get the books after he's made their first run. Many of our listeners have already listened to Scott, so there was no need for them to subscribe on our site.

That's a speculation on my part, but it makes sense.

Not that I'm really complaining about him not getting any more credit...

But why was Scott Sigler not included on this list of 2007 Heavyhitters?
