“Vatican Assassin” is becoming a Graphic Novel! Artist Cristian Navarro and I are adapting the story, turning it into a comic book!

The first issue of the black and white comic book is available now at online comic book store Indy Planet (IndyPlanet.com). The pages will be appearing twice weekly as a webcomic at Drunk Duck (drunkduck.com) beginning January 1st.

Your BOOMS are amazing. Especially the surprise element in some BOOMS. The rest of the story is cool to and I can’t wait to start on the rest of the trilogy. Which I hope I will enjoy as much as “Assassin.”

I liked the story, but I do have a complaint about the reader’s voice (Sorry Mike); it’s pleasant enough to hear (and clear enough) but due to the frequency range it was a bit hard to haer sometimess when walking across a busy/noisy street with my headphones on. That’s about my only complaint.
BTW I Like the idea of combining sci.fi & religious mystery/action thriller, works well!

I was tipped off to a great site for ebooks: Smashwords: http://www.smashwords.com

As a writer, I upload my books to Smashwords and their software, known affectionately as the “Meatgrinder”, takes the original document and converts it into several different formats. Smashwords then makes the ebooks available for sale using PayPal. As the author, I can set a price for my book, allow the reader to pay what they feel like, or offer it for free. As Smashwords says on their website, they offer “…multi-format, DRM-free ebooks, ready for immediate sampling and purchase, and readable on any e-reading device.”

Decided to try it out! I’ve uploaded all three books in the “Vatican Assassin Trilogy”: Vatican Assassin, Vatican Ambassador and Vatican Abdicator, as well as my collection of poems, lyrics and spells, Synthetic Marmalade, and my book on Gnosticism and early Christianity, NEO-GNOSIS. I’ve set all five books to allow the reader to pay whatever they like for them. You’ll find them here at my Smashwords profile page: http://www.smashwords.com/profile/view/mikeluoma .

Free Contest, New Column & New Page of Panthea Obscura from Mike Luoma

My new column on creating comic books is up today at Cosmic Book News! Hope you can join me for this seventh installment. I’ll tell you about finishing up the second issue of Panthea Obscura with artist Juan Carlos Quattordio, relate my first con experience as a panelist, and there’s also a FREE CONTEST exclusively for the readers of my column, where you could win a signed copy of a rare comic book! When I was writing the column, I realized I still had one copy on the shelf of a special PREVIEW edition of Panthea Obscura Issue Two that I’d put together for my appearance at 2Pi-Con. This preview has the first half of the issue completely finished and lettered, with the second half showing the work in progress – some pages are colored but without letters, some pages are inked, some are half inks and pencils, the last page is just the rough pencils. Only five of these issues were ever printed. I’ll sign this one to the winner to make it a one-of-a-kind rarity. The column is here:

I am not a fan of science fiction, yet I found myself looking forward to my 45 minute drive to and from work just so I could listen to more of The Vatican Assassin. Sure, Luoma could read a little slower, and maybe some of the dialogue didn’t fit the gravity of the situation to a tee, but the plot was excellent, the book moved at a good pace, and it kept me glued to it until I finished, and popped “Vatican Ambassador” into the player. Very well done indeed. I’m looking forward to a whole lot more from this author – he’s a winner for sure.
