Sigler v. Hendrix Webscab Smackdown
In a follow up to the events leading up to the International Pixel-Stained Technopeasant Day, it seems the fight is going the distance.
On September 19th, podcast-turned-high-paid novelist Scott Sigler (Earthcore, Ancestor and Infection) will be facing off against outgoing SFWA Vice President and self-proclaimed Luddite Howard Hendrix. From the Craigslist posting:
There’s this debate running around the web these days…issues over podcasting, offering published work for free on the internet, and whether or not “the ongoing and increasing sublimation of the private space of consciousness into public netspace is profoundly pernicious.” Join us as we present Howard Hendrix and Scott Sigler in conversation on this subject, moderated by author Terry Bisson. Followed by Q&A from the audience, and authors will sign books.
I’ll just be getting back from SF the week prior. But dammit… I think I’m going back for this. Clean off the couch, Sigler. You’ve got company!

I would love to hear Mr. Hendrix debate a successful new-era writer. His original rant was surprising and he was doubtless amazed at the storm of controversy he dug up. It is easy to dismiss his views as typical of one who has achieved a position in the “old school way” (whether it is writing, journalism or even welding) and resists any change that may make it less meaningful, however he does have some good points and I would like to hear a good debate on the subject. Perhaps he can borrow some boxing gloves from Uwe Boll.

If we needed any more proof that Hendrix is just not connected to the new media way of life, agreeing to step into the forum with Sigler would be enough to close the case.
