How non-authors can get a book on Podiobooks.com

nullVery occasionally, we receive communications from people who are interested in narrating a book, but aren’t themselves authors. Our advice is usually “contact the authors you love”, but now we can offer something more. I’ve recently learned from BoingBoing that Strange Horizons (online short-fiction magazine) is following the wishes of some of their authors by making their stories available on the site under a Creative Commons license. This is fantastic news, as now people are free to share much of this great short fiction work with an even larger audience.

And specific to those who’ve been asking, here’s an opportunity. Someone could make audio versions of several of these stories to create a podiobook anthology. Just so we are clears — a Creative Commons license does not automatically allow for the creation of derivative work. But if often times does. If in doubt, check the CC license on the stories listed here and here. And if still in doubt, check with the author. In fact, do that anyhow. It’s just good manners.
