Terra Incognita
Please welcome a new book by Gary Hicks called Terra Incognita.
Drawn together apparently by the hand of fate, Trent and Cole escape the oppressive totalitarian domed city that has nurtured them all their lives. Outside they discover a world they could never have imagined. They are pursued by the city Militia, intent on returning them to the secretive entity that oversees every facet of the city. They are joined by Floyd, who turns against the Militia; but then they are captured once more and once again freed by those they would have considered most unlikely to help them. The trio begin to understand the truth of their world and must decide for whom they will fight in the coming wars…

Hi,
Thought I’d best give a bit of notice that the next three chapters are being put together at the moment - had a slight delay due to a rather nasty tooth (now removed) and an equally nasty hard drive (shortly to be replaced)…
Cheers,
Gary

Excellent stuff. Excellent narration and good voice acting make the story come alive. Keep up the good work.

This is a great story! I am thoroughly enjoying the book and am eagerly awaiting the next episode. Will one be coming soon? : )

When will chapter 11 on be here?
September 2nd, 2007 at 2:50 pm
Hi Joan and LeRoy,
Sorry for the massive delay - had a combination of events occur. Family visiting for a week and the PC I use for actually putting these together is in the room they were in!! The other thing was I’ve been waiting on Kevin (the narrator) who’s been having fun finding free time to record.
Anyway, these are both now sorted and Episode 11 will be uploaded tonight.
Glad to hear that the sort is being enjoyed
I should be getting episode 12 to Podiobooks.com tomorrow evening at some point - that’ll be 1/3 of the way through the story. I hope it keeps you interested and guessing as to what is going on
Cheers,
Gary

I am thinking of doing two, maybe three give aways of a set of audio CDs of the complete Podiobook of terra Incognita. In the way of a competition, so there will be a question and the first person to email me with the correct answer will receive the CDs when the final episode has been completed - perhaps shortly before…
If this sounds like some fun you’d be interested in, let me know at gary @ gary-hicks . com (remove the spaces
) and I’ll add a page to my web site with the first question.
Cheers,
Gary

Hi Gary,
The contest sounds like a fun idea. It will definitely keep me listening closely!
Cheers on the good work!

A trivia competition it is then…
I’ve added a new page to my web site, with a question about the Terra Incognita story. It, possibly, isn’t as straight forward as it might at first appear…

Hi Gary
Joan
I’m wondering when we’ll see Episode 16? I’m eager to find out what happens next, and, of course, there’s the contest. Please give us an update.

Hi Joan,
Really sorry for the delay, should be within the next few days for episode 16. Then we should be back to releasing an episode a week.
Cheers,
Gary

Hi Gary - Just checking in with the book - I’m looking forward to the next chapter, so I’m giving you a little nudge.
November 5th, 2007 at 4:04 pm
Hi Joan,
Thanks for the nudge
I have cornered Kevin (the Narrator) today and he will be finishing all the narrative for the remaining twenty-one chapters this coming Monday.
As the bulk work for the remaining episodes is done - I’ve been waiting on Kevin! - I should be able to get everything rolling a lot faster. I’m going to be putting out a “The Story So Far…” psuedo-episode at the weekend, to bring everything up to date as it has been far too long since the last episode was released.
Thanks for sticking with me over the last month, I can only hope it hasn’t been as much of a pain for you as it has been for me!
Cheers,
Gary

Gary has just emailed me with some news that will give some of you a minor headache. Seems that life is putting up some roadblocks in the way of his finishing the book. The good news is that he’s got the majority of it recorded. The bad news is that he has less time to wok on the editing. He’s committed to finishing, but he expects a longer delay between uploads the previously.
Sorry folks. But let’s give him some patience as he works through things for a bit.

If I didn’t enjoy listening to this book as much as I do, I would’ve given up waiting on episodes a long time ago! I should just keep to my decision to ONLY start listening to FINISHED books… *sigh*.
February 6th, 2008 at 12:48 pm
Hi everyone,
I’ll be getting a few episodes finalised and uploaded this weekend. Really sorry for the huge delay…
Cheers,
Gary

Hi Gary!
Glad to hear that some new episodes are on the way. I’m sure you meant “this” weekend, n’est pas? I’m really looking forward to the next episodes, as the story feels like it’s picking up speed and I want to get going! I know it will be worth waiting for, and one must remember that this is a work of love, not work for pay, so patience is required of the dedicated listener.
I have begun re-listening from episode one, so it is fresh in my mind for the continuation.

this is a good book, but this is crap, why can we get some more episodes. just write something, they fight the aliens freee the city, lets get this show on the road. it has been more than a month since a new chapter and you are probably going to only release one at a time when you finally get this stuff out
This is a good book, you are getting fan base, dont alienate them by waiting so long, i am about to move on to different junk.
February 25th, 2008 at 7:26 am
You have until March 1st then I move on.
February 25th, 2008 at 11:59 am
Scott and Pierre,
Fellas, I get your desire to get more when you get hooked into a story. Really, I do. I can’t think of the number of times I’ve fretted in frustration when I wanted to have a story wrap up.
But your threats to ‘move on aren’t helping’. If you need to move on, that’s fine. But I’m pretty sure that Gary feels bad enough about not getting episodes out when he’d like to as is.
Beyond that, why not just keep the subscription active and go grab another book? That way when Gary is able to put out a new episode, you’ll get it automatically and can enjoy the end of the tale. Again, I understand your frustration and you are free to subscribe and unsubscribe at will. I’m just hoping we can all be a bit more friendly about it.

Garbage- this dude is trying to make it as an author right?! this is where a modern author can start, you get a bunch of sci fi nerds to start following then you print small numbers of paper books then large numbers. This guy wrote somthing good, he also told us 3 more episodes were comeing out, and they havent. Now i understand to be nice, but my boy scotty and pierre have a good point, get this thing finished or at least say when you will return. The anger is only a testament to how good this book is and how good this chump author is.
Evo- let the author write a response for himself, he is after all- an AUTHOR, i sure the dude has heard worse.
I dont even like sci fi but this book got me hooked.

Wow, savage fans, what next?? I’m looking forward to the next episodes and hope you can get them out soon, Gary. Could we have an update on the ETA?

It is a great book, there is no denying that but does anyone remember “Seeds of the Machina”?
March 2nd, 2008 at 5:59 am
Yep, I remember Seeds of the Machina. I’m reminded of it each time I look at the podcast section in iTunes.
Apart from that I want to say that I really love Terra Incognita — the story is great, the production is nice… I just hope the episodes were coming more frequently.
Now I plan to wait for a few more episodes to come out and then I’ll start listening from the beginning. Since the last episode I’ve read a couple of books and listened to a few others, not to mention all the short stories coming through EscapePod and PseudoPod. Because of this I really don’t remember any more where was the story here in the last episode. This is why it is so frustrating to wait for so long for new episodes — you’re just forgetting the story, regardless of how good it is.
Keep up the good work, Gary! I’d really like to hear the end of the story.
And then I’ll be waiting for the next one!

Hi guys,
I’m really sorry things have taken so very very long to get going again - had a whole range of personal/family things that simply had to take priority…
Anyway, I’ve uploaded Episode 28 to Podiobooks.com today and thus that will be released in the next day or so. I’ll be uploading episode 29 tomorrow and hope that the remaining 7 episodes will follow in very short order.
For everyone who has stuck with me on this and waited for the next episode, thank you for your loyalty. For everyone who has moved on, I’m sorry to see you go, but do understand.
Cheers,
Gary

Yipee!! Thanks, Gary! Glad things are coming along again book-wise and I hope everything is going well on the personal front. Off I go to continue the story…
May 14th, 2008 at 11:51 am
Ok, In march the story was going to start up again but after the one installment posting Nothing?
Am I missing something here? I didn’t see any additional info of if the books going to be finished or not?
If you can’t finish the podicast can you release a a pdf so I can at least read the ending?
May 18th, 2008 at 12:30 am
Hi Gary
Is there some way we can give assistance?
Another narrator, the use of a computer to record / edit, someone to do the sound editing and give their time?
Please say if there’s something one of us out here can do. The book is great, I’m looking forward to hearing more.
Cheers
