I like the story, and like the reader's choice in voices except the one he uses for the narrator. The inflections and emphasis he uses for that sounds more like Casey Kasem than capturing the spookieness he's attempting.

A very good horror story...very imaginative and creepy..
The narrative style may not be to everyone's taste but no one can deny that he is a talented guy and overall, a good performer.

I like the story. Did the word Hillbilly exist in 1850? I don't think it did.

Here's the conundrum: this is a very cool book, with some nods and winks to Stephen King's "Gunslinger", our protagonist is caught in dark, deserted world with an even darker past. Historically, well-considered and conceived, it's an apocalyptic tale and the author brings it to your with knuckles bared. It's raw and gritty and also well-produced. I'll recommend this book highly, but with the same observation (complaint) that others have stated: there's such thing as over-reading for emphasis. The narration by the author is perhaps excessive. It would seem that in his enthusiasm to convey emotion and excitement, he takes it a bit over the top. Getting past that, you'll love it.

The story is one that I really want listen to till the end, I am up to chapter 3, it is an excellent story so far. As others have said here unfortunately the narration style can on occasion be quite distracting. I think the Narrator may be trying to get across a sense of tension and excitement by speeding up the reading and changing the tone and volume of the voice, then pauses. I am afraid it only works to a certain degree for me, as often it doesnt seem to be required and is out of proportion with what is actually being said. Although it is far better than listening to a monologue from somebody who sounds a bit bored by the whole thing. Too much of a good thing in the Narration, a bit like using to many exclamation marks when writing or something, but a very good story.

I gave up after two episodes, the reading style just grated on me. I found having literally every sentence emphasised like it was the climax to whole story exhausting at first and down right irritating after 20 minutes.

Mark's narration is sometimes over dramatic. It reminds me of Captain James T Kirk of the Starship Enterprise on Speed! Numerous times he will read a sentence, drawing you along with dramatic emphasis, pause briefly, then finish the last part in a very calm way as if it wasn't of any great importance. I found it slightly annoying, but not enough to distract me from the overall story, which I think was very enjoyable.

Fantastic! I love stories about the journeys and adventures of the 'tortured soul' and Badlands is an excellent representation of that style. Nemcoff's narration is extremely compelling. The story is dark and creepy, but I couldn't stop listening. I'm gonna have to wait until season 3 is completely finished cuz listening only a chapter at a time will drive me nuts wanting more.

Great story...a little creepy at times but that's what makes it great. I wouldn't necessarily recommend to listen to this at night before bed or in the dark. I know i was jumping at every noise I heard and kept looking over my shoulder for humanoid coyotes. Mr. Nemcoff does an amazing job of adding emotion to the story. The suspense of the story was great. There were times where it was kind of scaring the shit out of me but I couldn't stop listening. I actually listened to this book without previously listening to season one, but everything made perfect sense and I didn't feel lost or like I absolutely had to read season one to understand season two. I'm hoping there's going to be a third season because I will definitely subscribe to it.

I just checked out database, and Chapter 20 (which is episode 22) works OK for me. I also checked episode 20 in case you meant that. It also works.

These files aren't hosted by us on Podiobooks.com -- we just provide links to the files on Podshow. So maybe they had a glitch? If you access the book's page, you should be able to manually download the episodes. I was!

Good question, Jennifer. I'm not subscribed to the book, but when I check the links to the files on 10 and 11, they work just fine for me. We don't host the audio files on our site, so maybe the Podshow server was holding them back for some reason? Try it again, or click the links directly from the book page.
