I just listened to this book through in one day while working. I really enjoyed the story, and found it to be a very good "origin tale", and it really delved into the moral dilemmas that Gabriel is faced with, and why he chose to be the kind of superhero he chose to be be.

The only fault I can give is really in the poor quality of the reading. A. P. Fuchs sounds like he's nervously holding in too much air while reading. However, I strongly prefer his reading it over having to actually read it myself, as I generally listen to podiobooks while doing something else. However, the story is compelling enough that I'll probably buy the sequel anyway.

Having listened to the the whole book, with some difficulty it has to be said, I am largely dissapointed with this effort. It wasn't so much that it didn't have potential, or that the premise was so far fetched, but more that it never really escalated above mundane. As a superhero Axiom-man really doesn't cut it, and I have him in the league of Power-Rangers and Buzz Lightyear rather than some of the more hardened lycra wearing crime fighters with whom I am familiar. I'm quite sure Batman, with no powers at all, could give Axiom-man a serious ass whooping without even breaking a sweat. The story is loose and uncomprehensive and left me straining to come to grips with the plausibility of this story or the world in which it resides.

The story really needs some tightening up too as the prose is quite sloppy in places, and the exposition arkward.
The audio quality is also remarkably bad. The volume yaws quite erratically, and the the very loud back ground noise (hiss in particular) is gated quite heavily so there is this awful breathing effect. The oraor often sounds as though he reading the story after just having done a five mile run and this is eclipsed only by the expressionless hypnotic monotone that fails to inject any excitement.

Dear Chris,

Oh, there's plenty (and I mean PLENTY) of action and adventure in book two, Doorway of Darkness. This first novel was more an origin tale than anything else, basically setting up what's to come. Same deal with the love story. You can read a free preview of Doorway of Darkness at www.apfuchs.com, if you're interested.

Thanks for your honest feedback. Much appreciated. :)

I'd say the story got better towards the end. There was a bit more action and adventure but I'd like to see more. The love story never really seemed to develop quite enough and the hero never really took advantage of his powers he just seemed like a depressed stump on a log. I'm hoping that in the next installment he'll embrace his reality a bit more and the story will pick up.

I want to like Axiom-man. I'm trying to like Axiom-man. I've given it five episodes so far and have decided to give it one more.

So far I feel like I'm drowning in exposition: lots of internal monologues with the characters explaining to themselves how they feel about things and what their intentions are. If you asked me to describe the plot, though, I'd have a hard time since I don't feel like anything has actually happened yet. Dear characters: please do something soon or I won't be around to hear about it.

Thanks for your honest feedback, Barry.

If you're interested in checking out another free Axiom-man tale, his comic book debut is presently being serialized for free at Drunkduck.com. The URL to the comic is http://www.drunkduck.com/Axiomman_Of_Magic_and_Men/index.php?p=293856 and is updated every Tuesday and Thursday. Perhaps the comic story might be more up your alley.

Thanks again.

The concept is interesting but so far the main character hasn't risen above boring and cliche-ridden. I'm trying to stay tuned but it's getting really hard.

Great concept. I like the fact that he's vulnerable and his powers are somewhat limited. I just have one question. Why is the general's uniform navy blue? I'm not trying to be nitpicky, and after 11 chapters if that's all we find, that's pretty good. Please keep up the good work. I work in a call center myself and you're right on the money.

Got a new mic today. Will be using it from Episode 9 onward. Episode 8 utilizes a new equilizer for the audio. There should be a marked improvement in sound quality from Chapter Five (Episode 8) onward and even better from Episode 9 onward.

Thanks again to all of you who have been listening to this story.

I like the story so far. I don't like how the volume of the narration tends to rise and drop all the sudden. Maybe a mic you can wear will solve this issue. The flow of your reading is quite good but sometimes to fast and choppy. Keep posting your podcasts... I really appreciate your efforts!
