I am sooooo glad to see that Season 3 is starting. Fortunately, I came in on “heaven” and “hell” after they had finished. I don’t think the suspense for these episodes will be very good for my health!

    Release them soon, Mur!

  2. Brandt Pileggi Says:

I JUST finished both last week. Friday I was all bummed because it was done. Then I found out Earth was coming out today. SWEET! Kate bless you Mur Lafferty!

Listeners — there was a strange problem with the second episode of this title. Please re-download it. The file name should be “PB-Heaven3-002.mp3″.

  4. OldGeezer Says:

I’ve listened to the whole shebang at work. A blasphemous good time! I especially enjoyed the little tie-in with that other novel on podiobooks (say no more). Imaginative, interesting with some hilarious moments scattered about to boot. Definitely made work suck much less the last couple of days (air traffic controller….naw, just kidding).

  5. Paul Says:

I have been trying to download from your site to my I pod. I have gotten to the point where on your page it says I can suscribe using I tunes. This works but I get only the newest podcast. I have found no way to get the previous episodes. Please clue me into what I am missing

  6. Evo Says:

    Paul,

I took a look at your subscription and noticed that all of the files, all the way to episode 6 are already in the feed. That means you clicked the “release ALL episode” link. It’s fine to do this, but you have to re-configure iTunes to grab all those episodes. By default, it only retrieves the latest episode of a podcast.

Click the little triangle to the left of the book title in iTunes and you can download all of the chapters that way. Next time, try letting out site send you chapters one at a time. Less mess!

A splashing good time, where do you come up with all those wacky ideas? Poor Daniel and his eye I love how they even think it’s humorous now.

  8. sueper Says:

Yayyyy I’ll start listening to it now.
I learned my lesson and realised I can’t cope with listening to them as they come in. I pretend they are not there until I see its done.
I don’t watch soaps on TV cos I want it aaaaallllllll
I loved parts one and two so this is going to be a real treat tomorrow at work
    Thank you Mur
    Sue

  9. Tim Says:

Great story, great ending and I can’t wait for the next book. Keep it up Mur, you’ve created a very nice mythology which I think needs to be explored in a few more stories.

  10. Nigel in Melbourne Says:

Its a rather interesting ride. One I can say that I have really enjoyed.

  11. startswithaj Says:

this book is very addictive….I started with the first book and found myself pressing the “release next chapter” button many times….

now i’m about to listen to episode 12 in the third season….

will there be more sometime down the road? Or is this the end?

  12. GK Says:

OldGeezer – I haven’t listened to many of the other stories on Podiobooks yet – what is the tie-in that you refer to?

Evo – is there anyway that we could sign up to be notified when the next book becomes available?

  13. Evo Says:

    GK,

No, not yet. But that is a good suggestion. We do put out notifications of new books and new episodes on a Twitter feed — http://twitter.com/podiobooks — if that helps.

We also post all new books here on the blog. You’ll only get new books and the occasional bit of news I put forth.

Finally, when the next book comes out, Mur will be talking about it pretty loudly. http://murlafferty.com is the place.

And we’ll see if we can’t work on a way to let folks sign up to receive news of when another sequel to a series is released.

I loved Heaven, loved Hell, and Earth kept it going. Can’t wait for the next one! Way to go Mur!

  15. Jim Says:

I love Mur. I first listened to her on ‘Geek Fu Action’, then a couple of her stories on ‘EscapePod’, then ‘I should be writing’. Since then I have maintained a casual interest in what she does not just because she is a great writer, but because she is such a likeable down-to-earth person that I can’t help but cheer her on from behind the firewall of my internet connection. Which is why I was so dissapointed with the Heaven, Hell and Earth series. Actually when I first began Heaven I was ecstatic because it was fantastic, but I found the quality of writing deteriorated slowly until it continued as a diluted, unfiltered version of how it begain.

This is not Mur’s best work, and though it is true I haven’t actually read that much of her stuff, I do know what she is capable of, and this isn’t it. I am not saying its bad or even unlistenable; after all I did actually sit through all three episodes with little difficulty, but rarely does the quality rise above what I consider average.

I just kinda get the impression she threw this one together and didn’t really work that on refining it, because in essence the stories are quite good ones. But they are more like rough diamonds straight from the earth without the polished, fine cut finish they really should have.

  16. PuddyRat Says:

I am enjoying the premise of this book, namely, that a couple of people you might find next door, have suddenly found themselves in charge in the afterlife and all the details that might entail. I like the way all the religions and myths, along with their gods, have been juxtapositioned in the story. I’m enjoying their adventures.

A couple of things I’m not crazy about.

One is the frequent use of coarse language. I think a story can be told effectively without being so vulgar and profane so often.

Two, Ms. Lafferty’s narration occasionally leaves something to be desired. Too often there are gaps in the narration where it is apparent she has become distracted and/or has lost her place on the page while speaking. This is just a minor distraction, however.

Overall, I’m enjoying the story and it will be interesting to see where the rest of it goes.

  17. VikaViolin Says:

I have just finished parts One and Two. Thank you for sex with Hermes.

Yes, there is coarse language peppered throughout, but it reminds me that the characters are teenagers (right?). Its nothing like Crescent, for example, where although the plot is gripping the foul language seems to step in for…well…language.
Ms. Lafferty is a wonderful antedote for the abundance of ‘dumb boy throwup’ that dominates these genres.

  18. psionandy Says:

Well… she’s done it again. Everytime I think i have a handle on where the story is going, she manages to fox me by taking a turn off in a direction that i never saw coming.

What can I say, I’m hooked… and now on to book 4

  19. zperkins Says:

These are pretty entertaining. I’m just starting Season III. The plot is really interesting, but at times the dialogue is distracting and kind of campy….especially if you count how many times both Daniel and Kate cry out “What the hell is going on?!!”. Otherwise, it’s quite enjoyable.

  20. Scott Zaboem Says:

I am just starting Book 3. This series is a great way to pass the time at my tedious job. I like Mur’s writing style. It’s very energetic as if she were writing off the cuff, however her stories are also very structured, proving that she is instead taking her time.

  21. One24 Says:

    PuddyRat said:

“namely, that a couple of people you might find next door, have suddenly found themselves in charge in the afterlife and all the details that might entail.”

That’s exactly what keeps you hooked…

  22. Junior Says:

Great book Mur. What a series this is. Keep it up.

  23. SGP Says:

There are only three things I do not like Mur. One your editing is terrible. When you mess up, you need to go back and edit that. In one of the tracks, you messed up and started laughing. That’s not professional and it is part of your terms when you registered as an author. It is distracting and I end up nitpicking the book. Problem 2. I don’t care about the song of the week. Just give me the story. I know you want to get these bands out there but they arn’t that good.

Problem 3. Your character development is very juvenile. I’ve seen a picture of you. You are an adult. So there is no sense in that. And you need to better describe the scenery around Kate and Daniel. Not everyone knows the beliefs of various religions and using more adjectives would greatly help us readers to literally jump into your story.

Also, you change your story. What I mean is that you said that Daniel was 10 years old when his mother murdered his sister and then like in the second book you said that he was 12. So which is it?

But other than that, I really like the story. I hate to be so critical of you and appreciate you doing this and trying to get your name out there as an author but believe me, there are critics out there that will point that out. So it’s better that it comes from a fan, rather than some grouchy aristocrat.

Anyway, great story just needs a few improvements. Nothing you can do now since the stories are done but oh well. Future advice, I guess.
