Terry,
I bought this book for my Kobo since I respect the whole 'Canada Reads' series so much. I thought I would sail right through it so I could begin another book.
I don't consider myself political to a great degree and even though I live in Calgary now, I am an ex-pat from Seattle. At home I'm a Dem. :o)
At any rate, I wanted to tell you how much more this book affected me than I expected! I am so surprised at how much better I'm able to read and comprehend political jargon/promises now and put them in their proper perspective! ;o) It's amazing. With a new election coming up now, I'm even more critical of what I read and hear! Thank you for that!
I also wanted to mention I loved Angus, and it was so clever how you showed us both sides of his personality. My heart swelled at the end of those particular chapters.
Thank you for a book that surprised me and that I could recommend as an audio book for my boss!

It's Oct. 15, 2010 & here in the USA we are in the midst of a bizarre Liberal political mess! Listening to Best Laid Plans has let me laugh at politicians again! It is a very pleasant diversion from the nonsense that is really happening in politics here!

Thanks so much Dorie. How wonderful to hear from you. I'm glad you enjoyed the novel and I certainly hope you find the same satisfaction in The High Road when it is published in September 2010.

I thoroughly enjoyed your book and look forward to meeting up once again with Angus and Daniel, I am an 85 year old conservative political junkie who bought your book and have shared it with all my senior friends-male and female- at Black creek Leisure Homes. I'm sure Angus will be just as crotchety as I in High Road.

Many thanks, Paul, for your kind words. The sequel to The Best Laid Plans will be published in Canada by McClelland & Stewart in August or September of 2010. It's called The High Road. I'm not sure they'll let me podcast the entire novel but I'll at least podcast excerpts. Thanks again for listening.

Hi, Terry,
I loved this book! I do a lot of commuting, so I burned it onto a CD so I could listen in my car, and enjoyed it so much that when I misplaced the CD (after finishing listening) I downloaded it again and reburned the CD so I could listen again, and then lend it to a few friends.

I'd love to read a sequel - Angus MUST have more political moves left, and Daniel has lots more to contribute too! You've got a winning combo here - and that's coming from a card-carrying Conservative!

Hi Terry! I've been listening to "Inside PR" for a year or so, and NOW I find your book.

I have to admit it kinda throws me hearing -that- voice in this context. As a former political activist and candidate in the U.S., there's still much that sounds familiar. Once I get used to Terry-the-author, I think I'll like this book.

Grizzly

P.S. When I get a ways in, I'll probably be reviewing this on my podcast. Hmm. Gotta reconfigure and get the whole book at once, that'll help.

Thanks Bob! As for that seemingly unresolved scene, it was really intended as foreshadowing. It revealed, albeit obliquely, the dominant-subservient relationship she had with her boss well in advance of the big scene when all was revealed (literally!). Thanks for your kind words...

This was a great book, and can't wait for the sequel when the NDP let's the Liberals know than Angus is the only Liberal MP they would accept as PM in a coalition government.

The only discontinuity I encountered (and I may have missed the resolution) was the angry scene between the Conservative Finance Minister and his domintrix/aide outside the meeting which was reported to Angus by the local reporter. What was she angry at the MP about? I don't think that was ever revealed, although each of them was!

As a former aide to the Majority Leader of our State legislature, I really enjoyed listening to this book.

Terry,

This is a wonderful book! I'm just getting around to listening to it because of a long road trip and you made my trip amazingly enjoyable. I loved the interplay with Angus and the juxtaposition of the comic carryings on with the poignant diary entries was breathtaking.

Thanks for a great story, wonderfully executed.

Hilarious, authentic.
The most entertaining Canadiana I have experienced !

Your description of the Parliamentary Library and House of Commons brought tears to my eye.
The best section was life as a Member of Parliament.

Book 2 (the next book in the SERIES) hope you write it.

Thanks for podcasting Book 1 (otherwise I would not have had the oppurtunity to enjoy your work - hope this comment makes you think about future podcasting.)

Angus McLintock for Prime Minister.
Can I write him in - on our Oct.14,08 election ??

This is a wonderful, heartfelt (and heart-warming) story that is superbly performed. I highly recommend this title. I would compare the style and plot devices to early John Irving works- so if you dig Irving, I can just about guarantee you'll like this one. A big thank you to Mr. Fallis for sharing this work.
