J.C. Hutchins’ Second Life podiobook launch party attracts the attention of Miss Snark

If you write, you probably know who Miss Snark is. If not, you need to find out. J.C.’s recent launch party in Second Life got her attention, and her community is talking about it. Most of the comments have to do with a religious battle over the sacred printed text against those upstart audio people. Then there are plenty of people critical of the graphical quality of Second Life. But after you filter out those groups, the rest of the comments relating specific to podcasting and podiobooks are quite positive.

Go, J.C.!

Attened the launch party and it was great!

I had to reply to that post … the fact that there were a couple of people saying that podcasting was a bandwagon fad forced me to add my 2 cents!

The party was great, I wish I had been able to stick around after the chapters were released to hang out with everyone.

Congrats on the success of the party JC!

    Toodles!

It’s ok, Miranda. Not a whole lot of people stuck around. Kinda turned into a cyber-ghost town after the chapters.

What struck me, AND caused me to have a very interesting dream, was the fact that there were a hundred or so people there that I could see and interact with. We listened to a phone interview and heard the reading by the author of the beginning of his new book…
    AND….
    NONE OF IT WAS “REAL”!!!
No people, no auditorium, no phones, no author and no book! (and yet we all experienced it)
This may sound common place to ‘the younger generation’, but some of us ain’t young and can still remember a time without cyber reality. Some of us can still remember a time before 8-track tapes!

My daughter has never seen an 8-track tape, and barely remembers vinyl and her daughter (age 9) has never even seen a 45 rpm record!!

And yet we had a cyber-reading with bunches of cyber-people attending, in a cyber auditorium that exists only as bits, bytes and pixels!!! Not to mention the wondrous ability to download audiobooks from a thousand miles away and listen, enjoy and become emotionally involved with stories that (for all intents and purposes) don’t exist. I’m amazed and impressed.

Many thanks to those that made the experience happen.

(and thanks to podiobooks.com for adding pleasure to my life via audiobooks)
