DailyLit – Serialized novels in your inbox

Occasionally, I hear of other organizations doing similar things to what we are doing here at Podiobooks.com. Today I found out about DailyLit. They specialize in supplying text versions of books in the public domain. But since they also recognize that people are inherently busy, they supply the books in bite-sized chunks via email. From their site:

[I]f you are like us, you spend hours each day reading email but don’t find the time to read books. DailyLit brings books right into your inbox in convenient small messages that take less than 5 minutes to read. This works incredibly well not just on your computer but also on a Treo, Blackberry, Sidekick or whatever the PDA of your choice. In the words of Dr. Seuss: Try it, you might like it!

These guys have the right idea. You pick your title (they have legions) and your frequency of update (sound familiar?) and they start sending out the chunks.

So if you’ve got a few free moments during the day and you’d like to fill it with some literary classics, give the folks at DailyLit a try!

Thanks to Matthew for the link!

I just did another search online and found a few examples of producers of serialized fiction.
Virtual Tales: – Tee Morris seems to have added his Billibub Baggins story to this website. http://www.virtualtales.com/
Baen Publishing: – Most of you have at least heard of this company but did you know that they offer a subscription service? The service itself is quite promising. http://www.baen.com/ It is referred to as a WebScription.
I’ve seen a few companies that have offered this sort of service over the years, but many have fallen by the wayside due to a lack of profitability. Then again, people are only beginning to understand the benefits of serialized fiction/non-fiction. As more and more people use the computer in their everyday activities, there will certainly be more using websites that offer these sorts of services.
