Good story that I have already recommended to others, although not quite what I usually go for. I was sucked in by the sci-fi astrophysics angle. Personally, I'd place this more in the horror genre but wouldn't have downloaded were that the case. Actually, I think it would make a really good movie in the vein of M. Night Shyamalan's works.

No confusion here and I kind of liked the sound effects.

Thanks for a weeks worth of entertainment on my bus commutes!

Woody and Puddyrat, thanks for your feedback --and for listening. (sorry about the limited sound fx, but I figured less is more...or something like that).

Wow! This was a terrific suspense/thriller/horror story. I would not call it science-fiction. I didn't care for some of the music and I thought that some of the sound effects were incongruous with the story line, but I don't think anything was taken away from the story.

There were a lot of characters in the story, but that just helped to add to its complexity. I thought most of the characters were well defined and consistent. The plot was well developed though I didn't care for the way the story ended. In all fairness, however, I admit to being mildly distracted as I listened to the end.

All in all, this is a good listen and I would definitely recommend it for teenagers and above.

Liked the story. A good mix of science and mysticism I also had trouble keeping some of the characters straight, but it all worked out in the end. Good stuff and I recommended it to friends.

Just an update: I'm working with CreateSpace (formerly CustomFlix which distributes my DVDs online) to bring a new edition of Doctor Janeway's Plague out in trade paperback this Fall. Hopefully before the end of September, and at an affordable price (i.e., less than standard trade paperbacks). It will be available through Amazon.

Paul and Louisa, thanks so much for your comments. Sadly, Paul, there is little I can do about my voice--but I don't hold that against you. Louisa, thanks so much for your thoughtful commentary. I'm so glad you liked it.

What a good story. I had a little bit of trouble keeping some of the characters straight--I thought Miriam and Nancy were the same person for an embarrassingly long time--but the complicated plot unfolded itself clearly. You respected your reader/listeners. The plot moved quickly and it wasn't explained to death. The twist at the end pleased me: it had the proper foreshadowing that made it a delight instead of a confusion.

I liked how the characters came from several generations and different backgrounds. They were also believable, having stories of their own outside the central plotline. Every character responded to events in their own way, and their responses were built up from the sub-plots.

With a fast-moving plot supported by realistic characters, a little sorrow and a little humor, this book made for a great light-listen.

Thanks--and I'm glad I got it all in one piece. Having to listen chapter by chapter would have driven me crazy! I encourage those who got stalled to give it another try. It's no Anna Karenina, but it's amusing!

Sorry - unable to get past episode 6. Good story but poor narration. Too fast and monotone to digest, for me anyway. Sorry for the negative feedback. Compared to say JC Hutchins 7th Son.

Kind regards

I love horror, but not gore. This is right up my alley. I'm really enjoying the complex storyline. and not really being able to guess what will happen next. I also enjoy the relationship of the older couple; again they aren't stick figures but have several layers to their personality. Thanks for your work.

One thought occurred to me after your post--and that's whether it might help if...before I start reading each episode I sort of put the plot in perspective...as a sort of intro.

Or would that spoil the atmosphere?

Anyway, again, your feedback is appreciated.

Hi Simeon,
Thanks for listening. Yes--there are multiple threads and several characters (sorry about that!). However, after the introduction of Nancy and Ethan, the cast is pretty much there for the book. Circumstances will bring Glen into their orbit as well.

Anyway...no problem if you want to wait until more chapters are posted. I appreciate your feedback.

So, I am nine podcasts into this book, and I am very confused. I think I might cancel my subscription, and then revisit it when the book is complete. I am afraid that there are too many threads too follow over an extended period of time without much stronger characterization. I think the author could pull everything together, and so I am willing to try again, but so far I am not gettig much from this book.
