Distributing listener contributions
We’ve received quite a few contributions from listeners in the past few weeks. I’m completely blown away by the generosity of our listeners, and wish to expressed a heartfelt thanks for those who have tossed in a few dollars to support the authors– and this site!
With that in mind, I thought I’d post a few “rules” (and remember that rules are meant to be broken) on how we’ll handle the distribution of payments.
-
Monthly distribution of payments. On or about the first of each month, I’ll pull a report (thanks, PayPal) of the previous month’s contributions and divvy the funds appropriately. Again, authors get (at least) half of the funds before any processing fees are calculated. Yeah, I’m a giver.
Completed books are funded. If the book receiving a contribution in the prior month is complete, meaning all chapters are recorded and available on our system on or before the end of the month, the author will receive the monies due them.
Unfinished books have their funds in queue. I feel pretty strongly that if you drop down your hard-earned cash on a book, you need to get what you paid for. That means the author has to finish the book or you get their cash back. No, this isn’t incentive for the author to finish. Well, I guess it is, but that isn’t my intention. All of the authors make a commitment to the team to finish their books, but things happen. I get that, and I can’t make anyone finish. But I don’t want listeners ticked off at us for cashing in too early.
That being said, we only had a single contribution in September, and it was for a book that wasn’t finished yet. So if you’re an author wondering where your money is, now you know. And if you’re a listener wondering how we do it, now you know. And knowing is half the battle.
